Best Shot Monday - hydrangeas

I love hydrangeas. They remind me of all of the beautiful ones we saw on our honeymoon in Nantucket - almost 8 years ago! This is the first summer of the 3 we have been in this house that we have successfully managed to get our hydrangeas to grow and flourish (and not get eaten by deer).

This one was in the backyard when we bought the house. Brian accidentally mowed over it the first year trying to clear out brush. The next year the deer ate it, so no flowers. This year it is a vibrant purpley-pink brightening up the corner of my shade garden.

This is one we bought this spring. It is a lovely pink - Merritt's Pink I believe. It has been flowering quite prolifically.

And the more traditional Nikko blue hydrangea. How can anyone resist the beauty of these flowers?

Check in with Melody at Slurping Life for more wonderful Best Shot Monday pictures. Tracey will be back next week!

We love hydrangeas here too, Emily! Nantucket was our honeymoon destination 10 years ago (7-11_, and these flowers always remind us of that place and time. I planted one here at the new house this spring and we're waiting for some blooms...

Beautiful photos.

Gorgeous! I also love the first shot.
I wish hydrangeas would grow 'easily' here in Austin. Your post reminded me of why we don't have any blue plumbagos...my husband ran them over with the lawn mower! :)

Thanks for posting such beautiful shots.

I agree - they are so wonderful! I mean, how could you not like a flower that is comprised of a bunch of little flowers?! Lovely photos!

Beautiful...My hydrangeas were only here for a few short weeks in the Spring...they are all burned up by the heat now! No amount of watering could keep them alive in this blazin' heat!

Beautiful. I think I'll have to get some of those in my garden next year. But if you say the deer eat them, I may be discouraged.
