SPF - Holy

This week's SPF theme was holy.

I can still remember a trip out to San Jose. It was just dad, Jen, and I. Dad was out on business, and Jen and I stayed with Nonna. She always took us on a shopping trip and bought us a new outfit. On one trip she also bought us each our first rosary. Although I am no longer a practicing Catholic, I know exactly where to find my rosary, and in times of stress it can be a great comfort to me. Sometimes (before kids) I used to keep it in a box on my nightstand so that I could pull it out when I was having trouble sleeping. It's not fancy, by any means, but it will always be very special to me.

I have a rosary that was Nonna's that has beads made of wood and they're the size of acorns. The crucifix on it is easily 3-4 inches tall.

I know you're jealous.

Also, interesting that you posted this now, as I'm reading The Secret Life of Bees and it talks about the rosary. I was just thinking about how I didn't even learn the rosary until I was in college, and how I think the only one I have ever owned is the acorn rosary.

I'm not catholic but when I was in Mexico I found a rosary made of pottery beads and a big pottery cross. I love it! It is more of a decorative accessory for the house since it is so big though.

Thanks for stopping by.

Excellent subject matter! I am not Catholic (I'm Episcopal which is Catholic Lite), but I find rosary to be a wonderful object of religious expression. I also love Greek Orthodox icons.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great Easter!

I still have my rosary too, although I'm no longer a practicing Catholic. Very pretty!
